Middle School
Grades Six through Eight
In
the Middle School students experience the benefits of having
different teachers with special expertise in the core
subjects, while traveling from class to class in a small and
supportive environment. Students have a core series of
classes--Science, History, Mathematics, Spanish, Literature,
and Language Arts. They attend Chapel and classes in
Computer Technology, Religion, and Physical Education
several times a week, and may choose from various elective
offerings each nine weeks. Students have a long daily lunch
and break period as well. The challenging curriculum and
organizational requirements help prepare them for future
success in high school.

Students participate in the Regional
Speech Meet, the Private Schools Arts Festival, District
Science Fair, State Invention Fair, State Engineering Fair,
the McGuinness Track/Field Meet, State Spelling Bee, perform
an autumn and spring musical, and act in the Stations of the
Cross mime.
An
elective period with classes based on student interest adds
to a well-rounded academic experience. Students choose
between different nine-week elective offerings in the areas
of art, music, speech, drama, band, astronomy, science
seminar, creative writing, sign language, various team
sports, photography, journalism/yearbook, computers, and
cooking.
As St. John’s students move beyond the eighth grade, they
have a strong foundation upon which to build. They are
routinely welcomed into the college preparatory programs at
Heritage Hall, Bishop McGuinness, Mount St. Mary, Casady,
and other area private high schools, as well as the
accelerated programs offered by public high school systems.
